Harnessing immune system to fight cancer – Riitta Lahesmaa
We aim at understanding the molecular mechanisms of human immune system and ways to correct the dysfunctional immune system in immune mediated diseases and cancer.
Proper regulation of immune system is crucial for defense against cancer and new drugs that remove the inhibitory breaks and facilitate immune system have rapidly revolutionized the treatment of cancer. In-depth understanding of new regulators of immune response and their mechanisms of action will open new opportunities to diagnose and fight cancer. Riitta Lahesmaa’s research group has 9 senior scientists/postdocs, 8 doctoral candidates/project researchers and two technicians.
