Cancer treatment is always started without delay

When you are diagnosed with cancer, you will be referred by your health care center, occupational health physician or private physician for hospital examinations or hospital treatment, if required.

You will need a referral from a physician for treatment at the university hospital and for laboratory, imaging and other diagnostic services. You are free to choose the health care unit where you wish to be treated. The referring physician will help you decide.

Cancer treatment is always started without delay. Your referral will be processed as soon as possible and treatment recommendations state that therapy should start no later than 4–6 weeks after the referral has been submitted. If the case is urgent, treatment will start even sooner.

Our aim is to minimize waiting times. Patients who need urgent or emergency care receive treatment on the same day, if needed.

You will find more information about the different cancer types under treatment presentations.

    Access to treatment:

Time to start of treatment at the Tyks Hospital (in Finnish)

    Hospital Districts

The Hospital District of Southwest Finland

The Hospital District of Satakunta Region (in Finnish)

    Vaasa Hospital District
