FICAN West constitutes a coordinating unit of advanced cancer care, research and education without participating in the care of individual patients in the clinic. FICAN West operates as a network and is a part of the national cancer center of Finland called FICAN.
FICAN West is run by a steering group and an operational and a scientific management group.
FICAN West is financed by the State of Finland and by external partners. In addition, the agreement parties contribute to financing the activities to the extent that funding by the State of Finland and external partners is insufficient: the University of Turku and the Hospital District of SouthWest Finland each cover 40 per cent and the hospital districts of Satakunta and Vaasa each cover 10 per cent of these costs.
Strategy
The operational activities of FICAN West are guided by a strategy that secures in the coming years effective and high-quality treatment, research and training in the field of oncology for the population in the region. This is done in the context of a center of excellence.
All that we do is based on patient orientation, equal access to treatment and high-quality care, a capable and flexible personnel, advanced scientific research and vast innovative and international collaborative networks.
The FICAN WEST will become an internationally acknowledged quality center which produces evidence-based cancer treatment and advanced scientific research in a timely manner in an environment where the personnel experience a high level of wellbeing.
